Thank you to those who attended the reading

I just wanted to say thanks to all the brave souls who ventured out into the rain tonight to see the reading of “Business Meeting”. There was a really good atmosphere in the Globe and I think people really enjoyed the play. I know that I really enjoyed doing the reading.

I also want to extend a thank you to the actors who donated their time to do the reading. I quite liked working with you and look forward to the next project with you all.

Short Play Readings Continue at the Globe!

The Prague Playhouse Short Play Readings continue this month with

“Business Meeting”

by Mark Corner. Mark is an ex-expat who lived through the heydays of Prague in the 90s. In the play “Business Meeting”, Mark takes a satirical look at the process of making a play and the state of being a Prague Expat. Hilarity ensues!

The reading will take place Thursday, June 28th at the Globe Bookstore, Pstrossova 6, Prague 1 at 20:30. The play should take about 30 minutes to read. A question and answer session with the audience will follow the reading. Entrance is 50 Kc.
Directed by:
Brian Caspe

With:
Matthew Blood-Smithe, David Fellowes, David Fisher, Harmony Stempel and Brian Caspe

Future readings:
August: “Powder” by Adam Preston
Setpember: “The Sacred Sow” by Elleanor Cummins
October: “Vanishing Point” by Felix Meadowsweet
November: “The Relievers” by Brandon Swanson

About the readings:
The plays presented here are selected from entries to the Prague Post Playwriting Contest. The series is intended to give playwrights an opportunity to get a lot of hands-on feedback on their work through working with actors, directors and listening to audience comments. The readings should be considered “works-in-progress” and as a way to be involved in the process of working on a script. If you are interested in having your play in the series or in being a part of the production team, please call me at 608 577 012.

Hope to see you there!
Brian Caspe

Improv courses are starting up

Todd Kramer and Dan Brown are starting up an improv group. Improv has been made famous over the years by groups such at Second City (Bill Murray, John Candy, Gilda Radner) and The Groundlings (Will Ferrell, Phil Hartman, Mike Myers) and set the tone for TV shows like SCTV, Kids in the Hall, Saturday Night Live, Who’s Line is it Anyway?, Mad TV, Curb Your Enthusiasm and many, many more!

Classes are open to anyone who is interested in learning about presentation and performance but you don’t have to be an actor/actress! You only need be 15 years old or older with a good, working-knowledge of English and a desire to learn.

We are NOT looking for people who think they are “funny” but those who have always been keen to try acting or actors who would like to improve their craft by learning one of the greatest of performance arts. Mostly, we invite people who like to have fun!

The first BIIC will be held June the 26th (Tues) from 18:30 to 21:00 at a space near Letna in Prague 7.

For more information and to sign up, contact: improvprague@gmail.com.

The Final P and P

Alas, my dear P and Pians, we have come to the end of the road…..Surely, the torch will pass on to some other lucky poet or musician with an organization bone, however the P and P as we all know it will be finished after this Sunday. So, come, one and all, from P and Ps past and present for one last chance to share your work and throw tomatoes at the feature, this Sunday, June 17, at 6:30pm to Music Bar Nirvana (formerly known as Cabestro), Spalena 47, across from the Tesco at Narodni Trida. The feature will be myself, Bethany Shaffer, the woman responsible for the death of P and P, your trusty organizer and host, reading the poetry I have gathered up over my three years in Prague. So, come, bring your tomatoes and your best heckling, and see me off!!! (there will of course be an open mic after the feature)

Learning to act in the Czech Republic

One of our acting students, Michelle Arnold, wrote an article called “Learning to Act in the Czech Republic” which details her experiences as a member of our class. The article gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect when coming to our classes. It is certainly rewarding and challenging. Here’s an excerpt:

It’s a lot of work, 2 classes a week and at least 2 rehearsals a week and coming up with new doors and activities all the time, neither of which are easy, but the training is worth it. The Prague Playhouse wants to build a core group of actors from this class that can be depended on for future productions of plays and films in English, and when that time comes, I want to be part of it.

Way to go, Michelle! Thanks for bringing what we do to a wider audience!
