Come join us November 1st, 3rd and 4th at 19:30 for a set of monologues written by Jane Martin. This production of “Talking With” takes a look at love and loss, desire and dysfunction through the eyes of five women. Martin’s text is engaging, enlightening and thought provoking. Take a glimpse into five different lives and their unique definitions of love. Ask yourself, how far would you go to do what you love? Or how absurd does love get? Come and find out.
Directed by Lana Likic.
Performed by Dinah Geiger, Nicole Grisco, Barbara Halamova, Michelle Hanks, and Andrea Miltnerova.
Known as America’s best known unknown playwright, Jane Martin has remained anonymous throughout her expansive career. She has written ten plays, six one-acts, and numerous shorts. She has been nominated for the Pulitzer prize, and won the American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award twice and yet has never been photographed or made any public appearances. Many speculate that Jane Martin is the pen name of the one time artistic director of Theatre of Louisville, Jon Jory, who has produced all her plays and accepted her awards. Jory, the only man who knows, swears he’ll never tell.
Performances of “Talking With” are:
November 1st, 3rd and 4th at 19:30
A Studio Rubin, Malostranske namesti 9, 118 00 Praha 1.
A Prague Playhouse production in English.
For ticket reservations (120czk) please call 608 577 012.

if…. is a 1968 cult film by British director Lindsay Anderson about an
armed rebellion at a British public school. The film is associated
with the 1960s counterculture movement; it was filmed at the time of
the student uprisings in Paris in May 1968, and it includes
controversial statements such as “There’s no such thing as a wrong
war. Violence and revolution are the only pure acts” and features
surrealist sequences throughout. On its release in the UK it was given
an X certificate. The film stars Malcolm McDowell as Mick Travis (a
character Anderson used in two sequels). Arthur Lowe, Peter Jeffrey,
Richard Warwick, David Wood, Christine Noonan, and Rupert Webster (as
the pretty young boy Bobby Phillips) also take starring roles. It won
the 1969 Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2004 the magazine
Total Film named it the sixteenth greatest British film of all time.
if…, as far to our knowledge, has never been screened in Czech
Republic before. This night will also include a series of short films
before the main feature including the winner of the 2007 Manhattan
Short FIlm Festival ‘100th of a second’. Also showing will be a series
of SHORT FILMS and VIRAL VIDEOS.

The Sacred Sow
- a dark comedy on modern Ireland
The Prague Playhouse is excited to announce the next edition of their play readings, “Sacred Sow” by writer, community artist and musician Ellie Cummins. This fantastic play is scheduled for October 19th at Gusto (Vinohradská 83,Prague 2) at 19:30.
Sacred Sow has its roots set firmly in the past while casting a cold eye on perceived notions of Irishness, so of course it is a dark comedy. The play explores modern Ireland through the perspective of a son tied to his mothers apron strings against a back drop of foreign workers, belly dancing,Irish tradtional music, Hendrix and dark carry on in the pig house. This initial stage of the production will develop towards a full fledged performance at the Prague Fringe Festival in May/June 2008 and beyond.
Continuing our dedication to English speaking theatre, we hope that this reading of Sacred Sow will not only a great evening out but also encourage others to submit their new plays in the 2008 Prague Post Playwriting Contest. For more information about the contest visit http://www.praguepost.com/playcontest/.
Directed by: Brian Caspe
With: James High, Paul Madden, Ellie Cummins, Michelle Arnold, Michelle Hanks, Brendan Payne, Matthew Bloodsmyth and Alan Dimes

Now accepting submissions for the
2nd Annual Prague Post Playwriting Contest!
- Call yourself a writer?
- Always wanted to write a play, but didn’t get started?
- Are you an experienced playwright looking to kick start a new idea?
If you answered yes to ANY of these questions, it’s time to put pen to paper or fire up those laptops …
…because the second annual Prague Post Playwriting Contest is open for business! Last year, we had over 100 entries. This year we want more. Everyone says Prague attracts writing talent. This is your chance to prove it.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- original stage plays, never produced in Prague, with a run time of 30 minutes.
- submitted in English. (And, yes, it can be a translation!)
- playwrights who now live or once lived in the Czech Republic (we will ask for references).
- entries received by November 30th.
Full contest rules can be found at www.praguepost.com/playcontest/rules.
There are a bevy of prizes up for grabs. For starters, the top three finalists receive a full production at Divadlo Minor in March 2008. The top prize as awarded by the judges is a 20 000 Kc. There is also an audience prize for the best production resulting from the contest. And the contest will also award a special prize for the best play written by a non-native English speaker. The entry fee is only 100 Kc per submission. (Multiple submissions accepted.)
Many of last year’s entrants say the contest was a great excuse to finally get an idea out of their head and onto paper. Last year’s winner was stuck on act two of a longer play and used the contest as a way to work out new ideas. He’s now finished the play and gives the contest – and the actors and director – immense credit for clarifying motives, roles and through-lines.
So what’s stopping you? Get writing!
