BAITING LEVITICUS is a new 2 act play that will have it`s WORLD PREMIER in Prague at the end of April.
BAITING LEVITICUS does not answer questions like:-
“Leviticus Ch.25v.44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and
female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of
mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you
clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians?” (Laura/USA)
“I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her
period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev.15:19-24). The problem is, how do I
tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.” (Andy/UK)
BAITING LEVITICUS is all about what happens when some of the mega problems of religion in the news, lands like two tons of pooh into the unsuspecting laps of the members of a hitherto quiet and normal suburban Anglican parish. It gets personal! It gets political! I gets very messy! And it`s Hilarious! Well for the audience it is. For the members; it`s time to stop theorising and start shovelling.
OPEN CASTING: Saturday 16th February between 11am and 2pm at SPUSA, Na Porici 6, Prague 1. But call before for timed appointment. (see Contacts below)
COMPANY CALL; If your interest is in:- Stage Management, Direction, Lighting, Set and Properties, Marketing and BoxOffice, Posters etc please give us a call for more information.

Read on for casting breakdown…
BAITING LEVITICUS stars:-
Fr. HAROLD: A pipe smoking Anglican clergyman in his mid to late fifties; high church, personable and energetic, a truly lovely and loving man, but somewhat naive and out of touch with this world.
BETH: Fr. Harold’s wife; an attractive and intelligent women in her early to mid forties, a “still water`s run deep” whose gentleness of spirit and manner cannot quite disguise, or perhaps even enhances, a subtle sexuality.
CHRIS: A writer in his mid thirties; somewhat dissolute in appearance but attractive, a rebel without a cause at worst, a cynic at best, he has drunk deep and selfishly of lower life`s cup; and, though he finds it wanting and is attracted to Harold and all he stands for, he is incapable of commitment.
GARY: A gay, politically active, though sincere “maidenly gentleman” in his early to mid forties; an interior decorator by trade, myopically devoted to `the cause`, not the brightest but pretty shrewed.

This article in Variety says that the Czech Republic is finally doing something to staunch the exodus of productions to the East. It looks like the tax reform that is on everyone’s mind is going to happen in 2009. Will it be enough to lure Hollywood back to town? Already this year there have been auditions for at least two major English language films (Solomon Kane and GI Joe). Here’s hoping that the incentives along with the end of the writers strike will get more consistent production coming to town.

The Second Annual Prague Post Playwriting Contest is revving up for the performances of the three finalists. And we want you to be there!
The Playwriting Contest asked for submissions of half-hour plays in October, we judged the plays in December and now we’re just putting the finishing touches on full productions of the three finalists. The Contest is a lightning rod for our community theatre: plays written, produced and performed by local artists.
Come and be a part of the community by attending the performances and casting your vote for the best play. The three finalists are:
“Mrs. Svobodna and the Baobabs” by Nolwenn Treguer
“The Open Tomb” by Anthony Wilks
“Public Relations” by Jeff Kellner
The performances (all three plays performed each night):
Feb. 23 and 27 at 8 p.m.
March 1 at 8 p.m.
March 5 at 6:30 p.m. with a Gala award ceremony and party following the performance.

Alex Komlosi, a friend of the Playhouse, is opening his show Laska is Love, Love je Laska (at Divadlo na zabradli on Sunday. The show is in Czech and English and was developed with Eva Čechová, who is known for her authorial performance work such as Boršč and has been collaborating with Alex for a while. I’m just going to paste the press release below and I’d encourage everyone to go and support. I’ve heard really good things about the show.
The show is going to be Sunday, February 17th at 19:00 at Divadlo na zabradli’s Eliadova knihovna, Annenské náměstí 12, Praha 1. For tickets and information, you can call 222 868 868 or email: pokladna@nazabradli.cz or skype: divadlonazabradli.

Did you enjoy the film Once? Do you know a multicultural couple or are you part of one yourself? If you are interested in “everyday” relationships between people who, despite cultural and linguistic gulfs, find a way to understand each other and make it work, then do not miss Láska Is Love, Love je Láska by Alexander Komlosi and Eva Čechová. The premier of the performance will be in Divadlo Na Zábradlí (Theatre on the Balustrade) on Sunday, February 17th, 2008 at 7PM.
Láska Is Love, Love je Láska, directed by Komlosi and featuring both authors, tells the story of a young American man and a young Czech lass who meet and sparks fly.
This performance develops off last year’s successful production of “Sure Thing” at the Theatre on the Balustrade in Prague.
The new performance is inspired by “Sure Thing,” by American playwright David Ives, and is based on two original texts – “Lunch with Van Gogh” by Komlosi and “Oliver” by Čechová - developed at Professor Ivan Vyskočil’s Authors Reading seminar at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU).
Komlosi, a Czech-American who has been living in Prague for nearly ten years, has already performed versions of his text at various venues in Prague and at the One Man Show Festival in Cheb (2007). He has been invited to perform “Van Gogh” at the One Man Show Festival next year in Warsaw. Čechová, known for her authorial performance work such as Boršč, is no stranger to multicultural performance either, having worked with foreign companies like Théatre de l’Utopie.
Láska Is Love, Love je Láska is a performance bringing together various cultures and languages in an encounter which aims to foster understanding and remain understandable: “Even people who aren’t fluent in both languages can still follow the story because of the constant alternation of Czech and English. What’s more, the stories continually mesh, meld and switch, creating a linguistic and narrative verve that keeps audience members engaged,” says Komlosi, who has a long-standing experience with multicultural and polyglot performance with companies like Divadlo na voru and Doma/AtHome in addition to his own solo performance work.
