Auditions for “Baiting Leviticus”
February 14th, 2008 at 10:12am brian
BAITING LEVITICUS is a new 2 act play that will have it`s WORLD PREMIER in Prague at the end of April.
BAITING LEVITICUS does not answer questions like:-
“Leviticus Ch.25v.44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and
female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of
mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you
clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians?” (Laura/USA)
“I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her
period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev.15:19-24). The problem is, how do I
tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.” (Andy/UK)
BAITING LEVITICUS is all about what happens when some of the mega problems of religion in the news, lands like two tons of pooh into the unsuspecting laps of the members of a hitherto quiet and normal suburban Anglican parish. It gets personal! It gets political! I gets very messy! And it`s Hilarious! Well for the audience it is. For the members; it`s time to stop theorising and start shovelling.

BAITING LEVITICUS stars:-
Fr. HAROLD: A pipe smoking Anglican clergyman in his mid to late fifties; high church, personable and energetic, a truly lovely and loving man, but somewhat naive and out of touch with this world.
BETH: Fr. Harold’s wife; an attractive and intelligent women in her early to mid forties, a “still water`s run deep” whose gentleness of spirit and manner cannot quite disguise, or perhaps even enhances, a subtle sexuality.
CHRIS: A writer in his mid thirties; somewhat dissolute in appearance but attractive, a rebel without a cause at worst, a cynic at best, he has drunk deep and selfishly of lower life`s cup; and, though he finds it wanting and is attracted to Harold and all he stands for, he is incapable of commitment.
GARY: A gay, politically active, though sincere “maidenly gentleman” in his early to mid forties; an interior decorator by trade, myopically devoted to `the cause`, not the brightest but pretty shrewed.
