Nancy Bishop: Marketing For Actors

Nancy is launching several types of new workshops to expand her “brand” if we can call it that. Marketing for Actors will cover how actors can get themselves out there in the world (through new media: youtube, facebook, search engines, blogging; as well as old: resume and showreel critique). There will be a special focus on “self casting” using the new website for actors to send their castings directly to producers. Presumably the workshop will also cover how casting directors view and use this marketing. Right now it looks like she’s only scheduled classes in the UK. Maybe we can persuede her to bring her class back home!

Andrea Small: Singing Workshop Oct 11 & 12

Gil Bomber is organizing 2 workshops with English a natural voice and Alexander Technique teacher, Andrea Small. The workshops will be October 11th and 12th and space is limited, so you should sign up early. Each workshop costs 750 Kč and you should bring your own lunch (drinks are provided). The workshops are being held at Základní škole, Mohylova 1963, Prague 13, close to Metro Lužiny

On Saturday 11th October there will be a workshop (adults only) from 10.30 to 4.30 called “Singing for the Truly Terrified” which is mainly intended for those who feel they would like some extra help when singing, and for those who truly believe they cannot sing. But it is also suitable for anyone who would like to come along and sing (including those who came to it last year) – we will just be taking it a little more slowly than on Sunday.

On Sunday we will be “Singing for Joy”, also from 10.30 to 4.30, and the workshop is open to all adults – we will be singing different songs from those learned on Saturday so attendance at both workshops is fine.

To sign up or for more information, please contact Gil at gilbomber@cbox.cz phone: 608 233 310. Andrea will be teaching private lessons on Friday 10th October. Please book through Gil.

Improv courses are starting up

Todd Kramer and Dan Brown are starting up an improv group. Improv has been made famous over the years by groups such at Second City (Bill Murray, John Candy, Gilda Radner) and The Groundlings (Will Ferrell, Phil Hartman, Mike Myers) and set the tone for TV shows like SCTV, Kids in the Hall, Saturday Night Live, Who’s Line is it Anyway?, Mad TV, Curb Your Enthusiasm and many, many more!

Classes are open to anyone who is interested in learning about presentation and performance but you don’t have to be an actor/actress! You only need be 15 years old or older with a good, working-knowledge of English and a desire to learn.

We are NOT looking for people who think they are “funny” but those who have always been keen to try acting or actors who would like to improve their craft by learning one of the greatest of performance arts. Mostly, we invite people who like to have fun!

The first BIIC will be held June the 26th (Tues) from 18:30 to 21:00 at a space near Letna in Prague 7.

For more information and to sign up, contact: improvprague@gmail.com.

Learning to act in the Czech Republic

One of our acting students, Michelle Arnold, wrote an article called “Learning to Act in the Czech Republic” which details her experiences as a member of our class. The article gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect when coming to our classes. It is certainly rewarding and challenging. Here’s an excerpt:

It’s a lot of work, 2 classes a week and at least 2 rehearsals a week and coming up with new doors and activities all the time, neither of which are easy, but the training is worth it. The Prague Playhouse wants to build a core group of actors from this class that can be depended on for future productions of plays and films in English, and when that time comes, I want to be part of it.

Way to go, Michelle! Thanks for bringing what we do to a wider audience!

Acting Classes Getting New Life

The Prague Playhouse acting classes are taking on a new life. Moving to Mondays and Wednesdays, the class is going to start looking much more like a rehearsal with scene work and working towards producing a play. We are interested in getting a core group of people together who will rehearse and study. The core group will encourage others to participate. The classes will still be in Czech and in English, but if there is a great response we might move to separate classes for people who aren’t bi-lingual.

Anyone who’s interested should give send me an sms to 608 577 012.
