PSF: Hamlet May 15 and 18

Prague Shakespeare Festival is presenting an expanded version of Guy Roberts’ One Man Hamlet May 15 and 18 at Divadlo Na Pradle.

Ten Actors. Eighteen Characters. One Hundred Twenty Minutes. The Prague Shakespeare Festival’s production of HAMLET illuminates the mind of Shakespeare’s greatest and most famous creation, offering new insights into the life of theatre’s most canonical character. Using only Shakespeare’s words, in a conflated text that incorporates the First Folio (with additional aspects from the First and Second Quarto), the audience experiences the world of the play through Hamlet’s eyes – only seeing and hearing the scene and moments that the character Hamlet himself experiences in the play. Taking this singular journey with the Prince of Denmark, audiences will understand the actions, themes and motives of the play’s main character as never before. Whether seen as story of devastating human domestic passions or a suspenseful political mystery of intrigue, revenge and betrayal, the tragedy of Denmark’s “sweet prince” continues to challenge and inspire.

Information about the show can be found at the Prague Shakespeare Festival website. Ticket information can be found after the jump:

Miloco reprising La Machine, May 16 @ 19:30

Miloco is continuing with La Machine, which is in rep at Divadlo Komedie. For those of you that haven’t seen it already, I would highly recommend going. It’s non-verbal and a very cool production. Miloco devised the work through a series of improvisations and discussions and it has a post-modern, sci-fi feel to it while at the same time maintaining a core of human interaction and emotion.

May 16 at 19:30 at Divadlo Komedie
Jungmannova 1, Prague 1
Tickets are 150/100 Kc

More details and the Miloco press release are below:

Conceived by Miloco’s international ensemble, La Machine is an original multi-media performance which explores the desperation of lovers living in a dystopic near-future; it is a story of how their fantasies become a substitute for living and perhaps lead to a journey of survival.

Alternating between live performance and video, La Machine tells the story of Hurtus and Lili are desperately trying to keep living in near-impossible circumstances.

Science fiction is a genre largely ignored in the theatre, yet it is a genre that closely addresses anxieties and concerns about our world at present. La Machine is not the science fiction of spaceships and aliens, but rather that which asks questions about our current world, the direction it is taking and how we can remain human and hopeful when so much appears so bleak.

Divadlo Komedie
Jungmannova 1, Prague 1
Admission: 150kc | Students / Seniors: 100kc

Divadlo Komedie is located just off of Vodickova at the Lazarska tram stop. There will be drinks and music in the Komedie Cafe following each performance.

The Human Jukebox Returns! March 22nd

Gail let us know about her show “The Human Jukebox” which is returning to Divadlo na Zabradli on March 22 at 19:00. Tickets are only 200 Kc! This is a really good way to spend the evening! She says about the show:

If you’re not familiar with the show it’s like this: I know a lot of songs. A lot. So I made a book of about 1,000 of them in many genres – rock, rap, opera, gospel, musicals, TV commercials, etc.

During this interactive show the audience members get to holler at me whichever song they’d like me to perform and I will do it unaccompanied and from memory.

See what SPIN magazine had to say about the show:

http://cz.youtube.com/watch?v=9-H2iEFyIlc

Or read the history of the show along with what was performed at the latest ones:

http://gail-humanjukebox.blogspot.com/

Want even more info or want to see the song list? Go to www.The-Human-Jukebox.com or www.LidskyJukebox.cz If you want something that’s not on the list then send Gail a request and I’ll try to learn it. Or scream it out anyway – you never know.

So again, that’s:

Sunday, March 22 at 19:00

The fun will take place at:

Divadlo Na Zabradli
Anenske 5

Tickets are 200kc at the box office. Space is limited so it’s recommended to make a reservation by emailing: pokladna@nazabradli.cz

The bar opens one hour before perf so come and get…relaxed. There will also be ample opportunity to become even more…relaxed…during intermission and even moreso after the show.

Alternating between live performance and video, La Machine tells the story of Hurtus and Lili, two survivors of disaster, desperately trying to keep living in near-impossible circumstances.

Directed by Daniel Brown, this original multi-media performance explores the desperation of two souls in love and living in a dystopic near-future.

“Joyce in June” Stewart Parker Reading

On December 7th, four actors from the Playhouse did a reading of a new publication of Stewart Parker’s previously unpublished Television Plays. The publication was edited by Clare Wallace and published by the Charles University. Louis Armand oversaw the publication.

The reading was edited and directed by Maureen McManus. Denis Lyons, Paul Madden and Ellie Cummins joined me in the cast. The reading was part of the book launch party at Cafe Montmartre. It was attended by the Irish Ambassador as well as people from the Czech Irish community. All in all it was a pretty fun afternoon! Photos are below:
