Prague Post Playwriting Contest
We’re working with the Prague Post to plan the 2008 Playwriting Contest. Right now the contest is accepting submissions. Please see the rules page for more details on who can submit and who cannot. The deadline for submissions is November 30th, so GET WRITING!
The Prague Playhouse will produce the top three entries (finalists will be announced mid-December) at Divadlo Minor. We are currently looking for qualified directors and people to help with the production. If you’re interested, please contact me at brian@pragueplayhouse.com.
Auditions for the contest will be the 15th and 17th of January 2008. Since we don’t know what the plays will be, we have no way of knowing what kind of actors we will need. Watch this space for more information.
The performances of the top finalists will be at the end of February.
The Staged Reading Series
This is a series of readings from plays submitted to the Prague Post Playcontest but not chosen for production. The idea of the readings is to give plays and playwrights that show promise a chance to workshop and get some audience reaction. There is one staged reading every month. The readings provide a more intimate experience than the full production and give the playwright some good insights into what works and what doesn’t work.
Previous plays include: “Celebrity Father” by Mark Moe, “Business Meeting” by Mark Corner and “Powder” by Adam Preston (read Adam’s thoughts on the process of doing the workshop), “The Sacred Sow” by Ellie Cummins (October 19th).
Upcoming plays: “Vanishing Point” by Felix Meadowsweet (November 30th) and “The Relievers” by Brandon Swanson (December).
Talking With…
The intriguing play of monologues for women by Jane Martin. “Talking With…” is our effort to counterbalance the overwhelming number of good male roles. Directed by Lana Likic, “Talking With…” will play at A Studio Rubin (Malostranske namesti 9, Prague 1) November 1, 3 and 4. Tickets are 150 Kc or 120 Kc for groups of 10 or more and are available at the A Studio Rubin box office (257 535 188). Read the “Talking With” press release for more information.
