J.A.M. Casting

Jam Casting specializes in commercials for the Czech and foreign markets. They usually have 5-7 auditions a week. They are well organized and the audition process goes fairly smoothly. There are times when the wait is longer than 2 hours, but they also have a cafe where you can have a drink or something to nibble on while you wait. They’re pretty good about telling you about how long things will take so you can go, turn in a form, then take off for a little while returning just before you go in.

The castings are run by Stepan Sedlak, who will tell you exactly how he wants you to do the casting. Listen to him. He’s done thousands of castings and knows what he wants. He once gave me a great piece of advice: “The most important part of the casting can be the introduction. Now when the directors have DVDs of a casting, they can skip an entire audition if they don’t like the introduction. BE SPECIFIC about the work you’ve done. It makes a much better impression if you say ‘I’ve done films X, Y and Z and commercials for A, B and C’ than ‘I guess I do a lot of films and commercials’. Don’t worry about being modest. The directors don’t care. But the difference between ‘this person is experienced’ and ‘NEXT!‘ is really small.”
