The Bear Educational Theater
The Bear Education Theatre specializes in doing school shows using theatre as a way to teach English. I find this utterly commendable and it may be the most financially successful I know of any of the groups doing theatre. David Fisher is the engine behind this group. He is a big man with a loud voice and a huge smile. The Bear looks for actors fairly regularly (your best bet would be to contact David directly) and has a full slate of shows during the school year. Rumor has it that they were up to 200 shows a year.
Doing school performances is really hard work and even more so when you’re doing them for students who speak a different language. I’ve heard, however, that the Czech students are very well mannered and attentive and really do try to get into the show, laughing at the physical gags and mostly quiet the rest of the time.
