2009/10 Season

Rosencranz and Guildenstern Are Dead

19:30 the 4th, 5th and 6th of November 2009
by Tom Stoppard
Directed by Logan Hillier

The first production of the Playhouse’s 2009-2010 season is Tom Stoppard’s brilliant comedy Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. Based on two minor characters from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Stoppard’s play follows the journey of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern as they head to Elsinore to try to divine the reason for Hamlet’s madness. In the tradition of absurdist plays, the two main characters are confronted by the meaning and meaninglessness of life.

Inspired in part by the works of Francisco Goya, the Prague Playhouse’s production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern will be updated to the 19th century. Jim High and Matthew Blood-Smyth star in this production that you do not want to miss!

The Expats.cz and Prague.tv Playwriting Contest

March 2010

The Playwriting Contest is back, this time backed by our friends at expats.cz. The rules and the concept are much the same as they were last year: Playwrights submit their 30 minute plays to compete for the title of “Best Play”. The top 3 plays get a full production (although, sadly we will not be at Divadlo Minor this year. We’re working on a great replacement though!) in March. The judges select the best play and the audience selects the best production (the “Audience Award”). For more details, rules for submission and information from the past contests, visit www.playwritingcontest.cz. Note: Submission deadline this year is November 6, 2009! Get writing!

The perfect production to usher in Spring! Love is in the air and on stage as 4 actors go through all aspects of a relationship: courtship, dating, romance, marriage, kids, growing old together, and much more! The script is light and fun. The music is catchy and hummable. What more could you want!
