Smoke of Home
VOICES OF TEREZÍN
…the arts as spiritual resistance
“Smoke of Home” is a play completely reflecting our existence in the concentration camp … A great number of people lived only for their memories of home…that home they very much idealized; they spent hours talking about it, who they were, what it was like, what they had achieved. All those naive recollections were related to a notion of home which was unchanging. Only a few were able to look the truth in the eyes, a truth which was already apparent even in the camps: none of us would return to the same home we left. Elias and Stein (authors) were able to face that possibility.
– The late Professor J. Franek

The “world premiere” of Smoke of Home was staged in Czech by Divadlo Komedie in June of 2008 as part of an evening of scenes from the book “Theatrical Texts from the Terezin Ghetto.”

I am attempting to make contact with Zdenek Elias and Jiri Stein regarding the play, SMOKE FROM HOME.
I wish to review a copy and request permission to present a production. Please advise me how I can contact the playwrights.
Thank you.
